Five of the Hottest Custom Home Trends for 2015

Over the last several years we have seen many changes in the Custom home design market. There has been a demand for homes with open concept living, marble or quartz countertops, brushed stainless steel appliances, spa bathrooms and larger closets.  Our homes have been on point for all of these and more. At Wescraft we look to create a timeless environment, with an eye to the future. Here are perhaps the top five hottest Custom Home trends for 2015.

 1. Personalized Functionality

This is larger storage spaces with style.  Over the last several years the trend has been for larger storage areas. Today it is almost unimaginable to build a custom home without a walk-in closet.  Some owners are opting for scaling back on the size of the bedroom to allocate more storage space.  The upcoming trend is to now incorporate designated mudrooms that mirror the design of the rest of the house.  The space is bigger as is the laundry room. The laundry rooms need to accomodate dryers with steam boxes, folding areas and other storage while having a sense of style. A chandelier in the laundry room?  Why not?

2. Outdoor Living Space

Being a Langley B.C. based business, our homes extend to our outdoor living spaces.  In 2015  and beyond we will continue to see the outdoor room concept evolve with freestanding fireplaces, ovens, seating areas that incorporate stylized decking, stonework, outdoor fabrics and lighting. These inviting spaces will increasingly work to blend the outdoors with the comfort and style of the home owner.

3. Composite Decking

In keeping with having a minimum of maintenance while delivering maximum impact the move is to composite decking.  The look is attractive and can be stylized to the taste of the owner.  It had longterm durability and is much more resistant to the elements.

 4.  Mantle Pieces

The mantle is an area that can elevate a room by its appearance.  Now mantles are being seen as design element in terms of materials.  MDF is being replaced by expensive woods, stone and even stainless steel.  This custom detail becomes part of the signature statement of your design.

5.  Sliding Barn Doors

If you are currently watching home design shows one of the most innovative additions in the sliding barn doors.  They act like a pocket door but on the outside of the wall.  The doors themselves are varied, going from loft living industrial, pop of colour contemporary or French country charm.
